Frequently Asked Questions

  • Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that has been practiced for thousands of years. It involves the gentle insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture works by balancing the flow of Qi (pronounced "chee") — the body’s vital energy — along pathways called meridians. From a modern perspective, acupuncture is believed to affect the nervous system, increase circulation, and trigger the release of endorphins, which can help reduce pain and promote relaxation.

  • Most people find acupuncture to be a gentle and relaxing experience, but sensations can vary from person to person. Some sensations you may feel are:

    • A slight pinch or tingling as the needle is inserted

    • A sensation of warmth, heaviness, itching, muscle twitch, or a dull ache around the point (this is a good sign that the point is being activated)

    • A feeling of deep calm or lightness as the treatment progresses

    • Or nothing at all!

Acupuncture is a cumulative medicine, so while the effects may not be felt immediately, they can be felt over time. That may look like an improvement in symptoms, better sleep, increased energy, or reduced stress and anxiety.

  • Rather than just treating symptoms, Chinese medicine aims to address the root cause of internal imbalance and support the body’s natural ability to heal. It can be used alone or alongside Western medical treatments for a wide range of conditions, including infertility, digestive issues, stress, fatigue, hormonal imbalances, chronic pain, and more.

  • Please be sure to eat at least 1-2 hours before your session, and arrive well hydrated . This will help to prevent any possibility of lightheadedness or dizziness afterwards.

It’s best to arrive in loose clothing for easier accessibility to points on the body, but a towel will be provided in the event that isn’t possible.

  • After acupuncture, please plan to take it easy. Avoid any strenuous activity, working out, and drinking alcohol until the next day. You will want to continue hydrating afterwards as well.

  • Every person’s healing journey is unique, so your treatment plan will be tailored to your individual needs. When considering how many sessions you might need, we’ll look at how long you’ve had your current symptom(s), the severity, your lifestyle, and your overall health and constitution.

Most people start with a series of 5–10 sessions, and many continue with regular visits either weekly or monthly, to support their overall wellness and prevent future issues. If you're coming in for fertility support or to help balance your menstrual cycle, weekly sessions for at least three months are generally recommended.

Think of this like going to the gym: lasting results take time and consistency. Together, we’ll create a treatment plan that feels right for you, with a pace and rhythm that supports your goals and well-being.

  • Yes! Acupuncture is a safe and natural option during pregnancy. It can help with morning sickness, digestion, sinus issues, headaches, stress, aches, and more. If you're unsure, feel free to check with your OB/GYN.

In terms of fertility, it is recommended to have regular acupuncture visits to enhance fertility, balance menstrual cycles and assist IVF and IUI.

For those with fertility challenges it is recommended to commit to coming in for treatment 1-2 times a week for better results.

  • At the moment I do not accept insurance but FSA and HSA cards are accepted.

Additionally, a superbill can be provided upon request.

  • Late cancellations/ No Show

Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice or missed appointments will be charged the full session fee.

I understand that life happens, and I truly dislike charging for missed visits, however, when appointments are missed without notice, it affects not just my schedule but also others who may be waiting for care.

If you're able to reschedule for another time on the same day, I’m happy to waive the cancellation fee (availability not be guaranteed).

You can cancel or reschedule easily by phone, text, email, or the online portal.

    Arriving Late

If you arrive late for your appointment, I will do my best to provide your full session. In the event that your appointment needs to be shortened because you arrive late, you are still responsible for the full service fee.
